Building the BHaRN
We started digging our foundation in April, 2022. It was one of the wettest springs on record. Digging and pouring a foundation was very difficult with all the mud, but we powered through and definitely overbuilt it to ensure it wasn’t going anywhere with our high water table.
We purchased the timber frame from a company in Montana that takes down old barns and then reconstructs them onsite. We picked a barn that was originally built in 1840. This 200 year old wood is just beyond breathtaking! The company came out at the end of June, 2022 and put the frame structure together in just 4 days!!!!
Then in September, 2022 we proceeded to build the barn “inside out”. We attached all the interior Western Red Cedar to our framing and slapped up walls against the timber frame. Then we did the same to the roof.
To our surprise, winter hit mid October, 2022. Not only did winter start really early, but it was the most snowfall in over a decade…….We fought the snow all winter, trying to get the massive roof trusses on, insulate the whole structure and get the ZipPanels up. We finally did it. Then we spent all spring and summer of 2023 putting on the roof shingles, the exterior siding, staining the whole barn and getting our gorgeous barn doors installed.
It’s been a journey to say the least, but everything has been beyond worth it!
